Prague

The Golden City of Central Europe

Prague is one of Europe’s most visited capitals — and one of the best bases for exploring Central Europe. Vaclav Havel Airport is about 30 minutes from the Old Town, the city has excellent road connections east and west, and dozens of day-trip destinations lie within 2–3 hours by car.

Getting around Prague

Practical notes for first-time and returning visitors

Airport to Old Town

Vaclav Havel Airport (PRG) is in the northwest. Expect 25–40 minutes to most central hotels depending on traffic. Morning and late afternoon are busiest.

Getting around the city

Prague’s historic centre is compact but hilly. A driver is particularly useful for hotel-to-restaurant runs in the evening, or when you’re carrying shopping. Taxis work, but pre-booked transfers give you a fixed price.

Day trips are exceptional

Within 3 hours of Prague: Český Krumlov (UNESCO), Karlovy Vary, Kutná Hora, Olomouc, Dresden (Germany) and Brno. Vienna and Munich are 4–4.5 hours away — comfortable one-way transfers.

Continuing on

Prague is a natural mid-point for Central European itineraries. Vienna (4h), Budapest (7h) and Berlin (5h) are all reachable by private transfer without flying.
