Salzburg day trip
- 10 hours
- Door to door
- English-speaking driver
- Up to 8 guests

A long drive to a city that repays it
For a thousand years Salzburg was the capital of its own small state, built by prince-archbishops as a Rome of the north: domes, squares and fountains between a river and a fortress rock, with the Alps at the edge of town. Mozart was born here; The Sound of Music was filmed here.
It is about three hours each way, so ten hours door to door leave around four in Salzburg, and an early start pays off. Five stops are suggested. Three of them, chosen with your driver, make a better day than all five in a hurry.
The route
- 1

Your chosen meeting point
Confirmed before the rideYour driver meets you at your hotel or any address in Vienna. The drive to Salzburg takes about three hours.
Fixed - 2

Salzburg Old Town
The UNESCO-listed old town on the Salzach: the Getreidegasse with its wrought-iron signs, Mozart's birthplace at number 9, and a chain of squares between cathedral and river. Car-free; everything is a few minutes' walk apart.
Chosen with you - 3

Hohensalzburg Fortress
The prince-archbishops' fortress above the old town, begun in 1077 and one of Europe's largest medieval castles. Reached by funicular or a steep 20-minute walk; both are ticketed. Allow 90 minutes if you go up.
Chosen with you - 4

Salzburg Cathedral
The early Baroque cathedral, consecrated in 1628, with a pale marble front and twin towers. Mozart was baptised here, and the font is still in use. A contribution is asked outside services.
Chosen with you - 5

Mirabell Palace
A palace of 1606 on the right bank, known above all for its gardens: formal beds, the Pegasus fountain and the steps from The Sound of Music, with the fortress framed at the end of the view. The gardens are free.
Chosen with you - 6

Hellbrunn Palace
A 1610s summer palace just south of the city, whose trick fountains still soak visitors on a guided round. Palace and fountains open spring to autumn and are ticketed; the park is free all year.

Useful tips
- 01Most guests ask for pickup at 7:00 or 7:30. That gives you the middle of the day in Salzburg and a return to Vienna in the early evening.
- 02With four hours in Salzburg, choose Hellbrunn instead of the fortress, not as well as it.
Questions
Is the driver a guide?
No. Your driver is local and knows the route, but is not a licensed guide and does not guide inside museums or monuments.
Can we choose the stops?
Yes. The stops are suggestions. Agree with your driver at pickup which ones you want time at; the day has to fit the booked hours and traffic.
Are entrance tickets and meals included?
No. Sights are ticketed separately and meals are your own. Your driver waits while you visit or eat.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before pickup for a full refund.
Can we finish somewhere other than our hotel?
Yes. The ride can end at any address in the city, such as a restaurant for dinner. Tell us when you book.
