Austria's largest wine region, half a day from the centre
The Weinviertel is close enough to Vienna for a half-day trip. You are collected in the centre, driven into rolling countryside and taken to two or three family wineries, with around eight to twelve tastings poured by the winemakers themselves.
A two-course traditional Austrian meal sits in the middle of the visit; coffee, tea and water are provided on the drive. The group is small, so talking to the winemakers is part of the day.
A change of pace from the city, and you are back in Vienna by evening.
